Mr. Bishop

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the balance of payments deficits and surpluses for the years from 1946 to date.

Estimates for the years 1952–68 of the current balance, and of the balance on the combined current and long-term capital accounts, were given in table 1 of the 1968 "Pink Book" and in Economic Trends for March, 1969. Estimates of the current balance for the years 1946–51 were given in the table on page 75 of the 1968 "Pink Book" but, but, as explained there, the balance on long-term capital account was not separately identified before 1952.
