HC Deb 21 March 1969 vol 780 cc175-6W
Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Minister of Technology what sums have been distributed by the Shipbuilding Industry Board to the industry by way of loans and grants since the board was established; and what part of these totals has been provided to the two shipbuilding groups on Clydeside.

Mr. Fowler

The Shipbuilding Industry Board made grants totalling £149,996 4s. 2d. under Section 2 of the Shipbuilding Industry Act, 1967. Of that sum £58,201 Is. 9d. was paid to shipbuilders on the Upper Clyde and £8,900 to a shipbuilder on the Lower Clyde. With the approval of my right hon. Friend, the Board has also agreed to make grants of up to £9 million under Section 3 of the Act and to make loans of about £14 million under Section 4. These figures include grants of up to £3 million and loans of up to £5½ million to Upper Clyde Shipbuilders Limited but none for other Clyde shipbuilders.
