HC Deb 21 March 1969 vol 780 c176W
Dame Joan Vickers

asked the Minister of Technology whether he will give an estimate of the number of tons of sulphuric substance daily ejected into the atmosphere in London.

Mr. Fowler

The estimated emission of sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere of London in the year 1967 (the last year for which figures are available) was 380,000 tons, corresponding to an average daily rate of 1,040 tons. Of this, about 22 tons per day is emission by motor vehicles.
