asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many governing bodies of sport received grants from public funds to assist with improvement of coaching and administration in 1968; what was the extent of such grants; and what were the comparative figures for the year ending 1964.

In 1968 eighty-six governing bodies of sport received coach- ing and administration grants from my Department totalling £198,453; the corresponding figures for the year ended 31st March, 1964, were twenty-seven and £53,850 respectively.
