HC Deb 12 June 1969 vol 784 c281W
47. Sir S. McAdden

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will take steps to increase the number of speech therapists available to meet the needs of local education authorities.

Mr. Denis Howell

I am aware of the difficulties of local education authorities in recruiting speech therapists. The recent expansion in training facilities, including the opening of a new course at Birmingham should help to improve the situation. The need for speech therapists and for training facilities will be among the matters to be considered by a Committee appointed jointly by the Secretary of State for Social Services, the Secretary of State for Scotland, the Secretary of State for Wales and my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Education and Science.
