HC Deb 26 February 1969 vol 778 cc312-3W
Mrs. Ewing

asked the President of the Board of Trade what proportion of the levy on film exhibitors was distributed to Scottish film-makers in each of the last three years.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

This information is not available.

The levy is distributed to makers of eligible British films. Records are not maintained in a way which will show what proportion of those films are made by Scottish film-makers.

Mrs. Ewing

asked the President of the Board of Trade what was the total raised in Government levies from film-exhibitors for distribution to film-makers in each of the last three years; and what proportion of this total was raised in Scotland.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

For the years ended in October, 1966, and 1967, payments to the British Film Production Fund were £4.6 million and £4.5 million respectively of which about 9 per cent. in each year was raised from cinemas in Scotland. The provisional figure for the year ended October, 1968, was £4.3 million; an estimate of the proportion raised in Scotland is not yet available.
