§ Mr. Geoffrey Lloydasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will exempt calcium carbide from import deposit, in view of the fact that it cannot be obtained in this country and is an essential ingredient in articles intended for export.
§ Mr. Harold LeverTo exempt goods because they are not obtainable in this country would give the import deposit scheme a protectionist character, which is not its purpose. There is already provision for waiving the deposit on goods intended for use in the manufacture of exports.
