HC Deb 03 February 1969 vol 777 c30W
Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what representations he has received from the British Legion, Scotland, about the special position of disabled ex-Servicemen; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. Swingler

A copy of the War Pensions Resolutions of the British Legion, Scotland 1968 Conference was sent to the then Minister of Social Security and subsequently I received a copy of a supporting memorandum. In my reply to both these documents, I gave an assurance that the special debt which is owed to war pensioners will not be forgotten, but I was unable to accept the Legion's proposal for reviewing the present system of pensions and allowances.
