asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will conduct an inquiry into the workings of the Inland Revenue in Scotland in order to establish why letters from taxpayers go unanswered and why income tax queries takes months to be resolved.

There have been some transitional problems in transferring work to Centre 1 at East Kilbride and I greatly regret the delays which have resulted, but I see no reason to conduct a special inquiry.
