§ Mr. Gordon Campbellasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action is being taken internationally to examine the possible effects on national salmon stocks of the new fishery off Greenland.
§ Mr. HoyA joint working party of scientists from various countries was set up in 1965 by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea and the International Commission for the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries to study the state of stocks of Atlantic salmon and the effects of the Greenland fishery and to co-ordinate investigations. The United Kingdom participates fully in this working party. Tagging experiments and research into racial characteristics of salmon are being used to determine the 43W origins of fish taken at Greenland and to attempt to assess the effects of the fishery on home water fisheries and catches.
