HC Deb 31 May 1968 vol 765 cc290-1W
Mr. Crowder

asked the Postmaster-General how many letters from persons resident in the United Kingdom are being held by the Post Office awaiting despatch to Rhodesia.

Mr. Mason

Only those which were posted too late to connect with the regular weekly surface despatch and the daily air despatch made on 30th May, that is, about 4,500.

Mr. Crowder

asked the Postmaster-General what is the average time a letter written and posted in the United Kingdom takes to reach its recipient in Rhodesia.

Mr. Mason

The average transmission times to Rhodesia are about one and a half days and 16 days for air and surface letters respectively.

I cannot say how long any letter takes to reach the recipient after its arrival in Rhodesia.
