HC Deb 09 December 1968 vol 775 cc39-40W
Mr. Booth

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science which regulations in his Department restrict employment to persons of particular birth, citizenship, descent or residence in the National Maritime Museum.

Mrs. Lena Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science which regulations in his Department restrict employment to persons of particular birth, citizenship, nationality, descent or residence at the British Museum, the British Museum (Natural History), the Imperial War Museum, the London Museum, the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery, the Tate Gallery, the Wallace Collection, and the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments.

Mr. Edward Short

None, but I am aware that the bodies in question only recruit as permanent members of their staff people who would be eligible under the nationality rules governing permanent recruitment to the Home Civil Service. The rules do not impede the recruitment to these bodies of British citizens born in other countries who are legally resident here.
