HC Deb 11 April 1968 vol 762 c314W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister of Labour how many workers were in receipt of £11 per week, £12 per week, and less than these amounts, at the latest convenient stated date.

Mr. Hattersley

The latest information available is for 1966. Approximate figures for men and women full-time employees in the United Kingdom earning more than and less than the gross weekly amounts stated are:

Men Women
Earning—
£11 or more 12,200,000 2,200,000
£12 or more 11,900,000 1,700,000
Earning—
Less than £11 300,000 3,000,000
Less than £12 600,000 3,500,000

The figures are derived from information provided by members of nearly 3,300 households which co-operated in the Family Expenditure Survey in 1966. They are subject to sampling error and have been rounded to the nearest 100,000. The table relates to men aged 21 and over, and women 18 and over, who are at work and normally work for more than 30 hours a week.
