§ Mr. George Jegerasked the Minister of Labour whether she is aware that the unemployment rate in Thorne is 10.8 per cent.; and what steps she is taking to secure full employment and increased production there.
§ Mr. HattersleyMy hon. Friend answered a similar Question on 18th 315W December. In particular he drew attention to the distortion of the figures by extensive travel to work movements in the area. An estimated 5,000 commuters work outside the Thorne area and are excluded from the Thorne insured employee figure of 8,500 on which the unemployment rate is calculated.—[Vol. 756, c. 906.]
