§ Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on his recent visit to the Far East, and his talks with the Sultan of Brunei.
§ Mr. George ThomsonThe purpose of my visit to the Far East was to lead the British Delegation to the Meeting of the Council of the South-East Asia Treaty Organisation which was held in Welling-ten on the 2nd and 3rd of April. On the way back I took the opportunity to break my journey in Brunei which I had not previously visited, and to meet the new Sultan. I had informal discussions both with him and his father, the previous Sultan, and I am happy to say that they both readily accepted my invitation to visit London later this year for a general discussion on matters of mutual concern.
