HC Deb 05 April 1968 vol 762 c162W
Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Transport by what percentage she now estimates transport costs in rural Wales will be increased by the operation of the Transport Bill.

Mr. Carmichael

The Bill should help to cut road and rail freight costs in rural Wales, not increase them. Public passenger transport there will benefit from the new measures of financial support proposed in the Bill, such as the rural bus grants, the relief of fuel duty for stage bus services, investments grants for buses, and grants for loss-making rail services.
