§ Mr. Ellisasked the Minister of Labour why and on what authority an official of his Department required Mr. J. D. Taylor to provide information as to his trade union membership when he applied for a job recently in Torquay.

Officers of my Department have standing authority to request information about trade union membership from applicants registering for employment.
