§ Mr. Geoffrey Lloydasked the Minister of Transport whether the sample check of vehicle testing which she recently instituted showed a greater proportion of defective tests in garages with a single pit or hoist; and whether she will rescind that part of the special notice of December, 1967, which requires authorised examiners to install a second pit or hoist on pain of withdrawal of authorisation.
§ Mr. John MorrisThe percentage of unsatisfactory tests in garages with only one pit or hoist was 43 per cent.; for larger garages the percentage was 57 per cent. The reasons for unsatisfactory tests varied but in 120 cases, 44 per cent. of all unsatisfactory tests, no pit or hoist was used. In the light of this experience my right hon. Friend does not feel she should relax the higher standards for garages which she asked for last December.
