§ Mr. R. W. Elliottasked the Minister of Transport if, in view of the rise of child cyclist casualties in 1967 to 10,750 she will introduce legislation to lay down a minimum age at which children may ride cycles on the highway.
§ Mr. CarmichaelNo. The numbers of child cyclists killed or seriously injured have generally fallen each year since 1959. Most of the children concerned were between 10 and 14. A logical minimum age would thus drive almost all child cyclists off the roads.
