HC Deb 03 April 1968 vol 762 cc121-2W
Mr. William Edwards

asked the Secretary of State for Wales whether he will consider extending the scope of the New Town Corporation to include the development of country towns in Mid-Wales other than Newtown; and whether he will seek to enable members of the public to contribute to the financing of the work of the Corporation by issuing bonds available for purchase by the public.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

Consideration will be given to extending the Corporation's remit in the light of progress made at Newtown, though this will not necessarily be delayed until that project is completed. I have no power to issue bonds to support the Corporation's activities, which are financed by advances from the Consolidated Fund.
