HC Deb 03 April 1968 vol 762 cc120-1W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Wales, if, in view of the small number of applications for improvement grants for older houses in Wales, he will now consider introducing legislation to make such improvements compulsory.

Mr. Cledwyn Hughes

Over 70,000 houses in Wales have been improved with the aid of these grants since they became available and this is roughly one in eight of the Welsh pre-1945 housing stock. But nevertheless there is no ground for complacency and the Government are reviewing the present law on older houses, bearing in mind the need for a further emphasis on house improvement. It is hoped to announce proposals during the spring.
