HC Deb 03 April 1968 vol 762 c117W
Mr. Ted Fletcher

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware that Mr. Alfred Wilkenson, who brought 12 acres of allotment in 1961 for £7,500 and subsequently sold the land to the Enfield Council for £253,000, has now been awarded an additional £60,000 by the Lands Tribunal; and whether this gross profit of £305,000 from a capital outlay of £7,500 is in accordance with the Government's prices and incomes policy.

Mr. MacDermot

My right hon. Friend is aware of the facts of this case. The repeal of Part IV of the Land Compensation Act, 1961 by the Land Commission Act will ensure that such additional compensation will not be awarded in future cases, and the realisation of development value will be subject to betterment levy.
