HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 cc124-5W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that private car-hire meters which are known to have a tendency to over-read cannot be checked by Weights and Measures inspectors; and if he will seek powers to enable this to be done.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

I am aware that inspectors do not test these meters. The related matter of taximeters was considered by the Committee on Weights and Measures Legislation (Cmnd. 8219), who concluded that they would not be justified in recommending Weights and Measures control for them.
