HC Deb 15 November 1967 vol 754 c124W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that Weights and Measures inspectors have no authority to test fabric measuring machines; and if legislation on this matter is to be introduced in the near future.

Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody

The use for trade of these instruments could be subjected to control by making an Order under the Weights and Measures Act, 1963. It would not, however, be desirable to introduce such a control at present, when the weights and measures services of local authorities are already hard pressed, and in the absence of evidence that the instruments are giving unsatisfactory measurements.
