HC Deb 09 May 1967 vol 746 c193W
62. Mr. Evelyn King

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he will introduce legislation to require planning consent for the erection by nationalised industries of potentially unsightly structures within three miles of the English coastline.

Mr. Willey

Nationalised industries are already required to seek planning approval for major new development, except where this has been specifically authorised by Parliament in a private Act or Order.

They are, in common with private industry, given various authorisations by the General Development Order: but these are, broadly speaking, restricted to minor works, and to the erection of plant and structures less than 50 feet high and of certain buildings on operational land.
