Lyonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on how many occasions since 1950 persons have been committed for trial on criminal charges by a coroner's jury; how many have been convicted; and how many have been acquitted because 244W no evidence was offered by the prosecution.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsIn the years 1950 to 1966 inclusive 203 persons were committed for trial by coroners' juries. Fifteen of these were convicted of the offence charged in the inquisition, and 73 of a lesser offence, as a result either of the inquisition or of a subsequent committal by the magistrates. 67 persons were acquitted because no evidence was offered by the prosecution.
