HC Deb 21 March 1967 vol 743 c244W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he has taken with regard to Mr. F. B. Imam's application for a visa to enable his wife, Angelika, now resident in Leipzig, to join him in Great Britain; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

In January Mr. Imam was informed by the British Visa Officer in West Berlin that it was contrary to the policy of the N.A.T.O. Governments to recognise East German passports, and that it would therefore not be possible to endorse a United Kingdom visa on Mrs. Imam's East German passport. Mr. Imam was advised about the procedure his wife should follow in order to obtain a temporary travel document from the Allied Travel Office in West Berlin, but I understand that no application for such a document has so far been made. A visa will be made available to Mrs. Imam as soon as she presents the necessary temporary travel document to the British Visa Officer.
