§ 59. Mr. G. Campbellasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will issue guidance to local authorities in Scotland 133W on the withdrawal or retention, following the Rating Act, 1966, of relief granted under the 1925 and 1947 Local Government Acts, in order to prevent the loss of income to retirement pensioners which has already occurred in some cases.
§ Mr. RossI do not think additional guidance is necessary. The Rating Act has not removed the discretion of rating authorities to grant relief on grounds of poverty or inability to pay.
