§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government how many ratepayers have benefited from the Rate Rebate Scheme; what was the average relief received by beneficiaries of the scheme; and how these figures compare with benefits received under the Rating (Interim Relief) Act, 1964.
§ Mr. GreenwoodThe number of ratepayers benefiting from the rate rebate scheme in England and Wales in 1966–67 (calculated by averaging the numbers of recipients in the two half-year rebate periods) was 1,024,000. The total amount of the rebates was £14.11 millions and the average rebate for the whole year was £13 16s. Fully comparable details are not available for the reliefs given to individuals under the Rating (Interim Relief) Act, 1964, but the total amount of such reliefs given under that Act during the whole 3 year period 1964–67 was £220,000.
