HC Deb 13 July 1967 vol 750 c134W
62. Mr. Carol Johnson

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in her contingency plans, in the event of petrol rationing becoming necessary, she proposes to continue driving tests; and whether, on the Ministry's examiners being required for other duties, she will consider utilising the Register of Approved Instructors to replace them during the emergency.

Mrs. Castle

I cannot yet say whether driving tests would need to be suspended or curtailed. But I would not consider it appropriate or desirable for tests to be conducted otherwise than by Ministry examiners.
