HC Deb 15 February 1967 vol 741 cc107-8W
Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the estimated cost to public funds of dealing with each claim for repayment of the Selective Employment Tax to agricultural establishments.

Mr. Ross

Between 4s. and 5s.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects to start repayment of the Selective Employment Tax to agricultural establishments.

Mr. Ross

This week.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will classify the reasons for ineligibility of those applicants who have been refused registration as agricultural establishments for the purpose of repayment of the Selective Employment Tax; and if he will give the numbers in each classification.

Mr. Ross

At 8th February, 370 application for registration had been refused because no labour was employed; 83 because the establishment was not engaged by way of business wholly or partly in agriculture, horticulture or forestry; 279 because not more than half of the employees were employed wholly or mainly in connection with those activities; and 20 because more than half of the employees were employed in non-qualifying activities such as office work.
