Mr. John Lee

asked the Minister of Health what were the number of National Health Service beds for chronically sick persons for 1965, 1966 at the latest available date, the respective figures for private institutions and the number of persons known to be awaiting beds for the same years.

Mr. K. Robinson:

On 31st December, 1965 and 1966 respectively there were 58,469 and 59,186 National Health Service beds allocated for chronic sick (including geriatric) patients; 9,206 and 8,424 persons respectively were on waiting lists for these beds. Information relating to private institutions is not available.
