§ Mrs. Shirley Williams:The Fourth Annual Report of the Universities Central Council on Admissions gives a total of 13,535 admissions by universities in Great Britain to first degree and first diploma courses in pure science starting in October, 1966; and estimates that, if 211W more suitably qualified candidates had come forward it would have been possible to find places for about another 1,100. Similar information for courses in science, engineering and technology starting in October, 1967 is not yet available but will be published in the next U.C.C.A. report which is due in February, 1968. The number of places which will be available in October, 1968 is a matter for individual universities.
The 1967–68 student admission figures for technical colleges will not be available until the spring.
