HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 c211W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether there have been joint meetings or joint consultations between the Arts Council in England and the Welsh Arts Council and the Scottish Arts Council on the setting up of national theatres in each of the three countries concerned.

Miss Jennie Lee:

Three members of the Scottish Arts Council and two members of the Welsh Arts Council are members of the Arts Council of Great Britain which has supported the National Theatre Company since it was set up in 1963. In accordance with the Council's Charter, the function of deciding on the support to be given to national or other drama companies in Scotland and Wales is exercised by the Scottish and Welsh Art Councils.
