HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 cc197-8W
44. Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the total number of police patrol cars in England and Wales; how many different makes are in use; whether he will recom mend a standard type of car; and what estimate he has made of the savings to be achieved by this.

Mr. Taverne:

I am taking steps to obtain the information requested in the first two parts of the Question and will write to my hon. Friend as soon as it is available. I accept the view of the Working Party on Police Equipment that complete standardisation is not practicable but studies are being promoted by my Department which may lead to some standardisation for particular purposes.
