HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 c211W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Secretary of State for Education arid Science how much money has been given by the Government towards the National Theatre in London; and whether it is proposed to advance further sums in the foreseeable future.

Miss Jennie Lee:

Grants made by the Arts Council to the National Theatre Company in the four years of its existence up to and including 1966–67 amounted to £766,000. The grant for the current financial years is £240,000. to which should be added £80,000 towards the progressive liquidation of accumulated overdraft and a further provision of £20,000, which may not be called upon in full, in respect of guarantee of touring costs. The size of future grants is for the Council to determine.
