HC Deb 21 April 1967 vol 745 c181W
Mr. Carlisle

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will set up an inquiry into the circumstances in which a wrong blood-alcohol content report was sent by the Home Office Forensic Science Laboratory at Cardiff to Her Majesty's Coroner for Carmarthenshire at the inquest on the late Christopher Hopkins.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I have received a full report about this, and do not consider any further inquiry necessary. I much regret that owing to a clerical mistake an erroneous blood-alcohol content was reported to Her Majesty's Coroner in this case. Steps are being taken to ensure that, where this is not already the practice, clerical procedures are double checked in future. I am satisfied that this case does not indicate any need to reconsider the procedures to be prescribed under Part I of the Road Safety Bill.
