§ Mr. Pounder
asked the Minister of Labour how many persons were employed in United Kingdom shipyards in September, 1966; how this figure compares with that for September, 1964; and what is the employment estimate for 1970.
§ Mrs. Shirley Williams
It is estimated that in the United Kingdom at September, 1964 and June, 1966 (the latest date for which United Kingdom estimates are available) there were, respectively, 159,800 and 159,100 employees in employment in the shipbuilding and ship repairing industry. It is not expected that this figure will be very different in 1970.
