§ 72. Dame Joan Vickersasked the Minister of Labour (1) when Her Majesty's Government will ratify the International Labour Office's Convention against discrimination in regard to the employment of women;
(2) when Her Majesty's Government will ratify the Convention on Equal Remuneration.
§ Mr. GunterHer Majesty's Government is unable to ratify either Convention at present because, in the matter of equal pay, the present position in the United Kingdom is not fully in accordance with the detailed requirements of these instruments. In this connection I142W would refer the hon. Member to the replies I gave to the hon. Member for Clapham (Mrs. McKay) on 6th May and to the hon. Member for Halifax (Dr. Summerskill) on 20th May, 1966.
