§ Mr. Robert Howarthasked the President of the Board of Trade if he will now make a statement about the Government's policy towards the future of legislation affecting the film industry.
§ Mr. JayYes. The provisions in the enactments governing the screen quota, the exhibitors' levy and the operations of the National Film Finance Corporation expire in 1967. I have decided that the right course would be to prolong existing legislation, with one or two minor amendments, until the end of 1970. A Bill will be introduced as soon as possible after the summer recess. This will hold the position and enable a full review of future films policy and legislation to be carried out in the light of the Monopolies Commission's Report on cinema films. As I said in reply to my hon. Friend, the Member for Putney (Mr. Hugh Jenkins) on 19th May, I expect to receive this report within the next two or three months.
