asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will make a statement on his conclusions following the report by the Monopolies Commission on the proposed merger between the Ross Group and Associated Fisheries Limited.

Yes. The Group of eight members of the Monopolies Commission who were appointed to investigate and report on this proposed merger found by a majority of 6.2 that it might be expected to operate against the public interest and accordingly should not be allowed. The report is being published today.

I accept the majority view, and I am in communication with both companies.
