§ Mr. Burdenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many prison officers were attacked by prisoners in 1963, 1964, and 1965; and how many of the officers needed hospital treatment.
§ Miss BaconStatistics for 1965 are not yet available. The total number of offences, including attempted offences, of violence against prison officers dealt with under the Prison Rules and the Borstal Rules during 1963 and 1964 were 225 and 226 respectively.
The number of cases dealt with under the Rules as gross personal violence or taken in the courts for 1963 and 1964 were 50 and 41 respectively.
Separate statistics of the number of officers needing hospital treatment as a result of violence are not kept.
