HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 c554W
Sir C. Osborne

asked the Postmaster-General in view of the sums of their own money invested by sub-postmasters in adapting accommodation and providing fitments to give service at their offices, if he will ensure that every sub-postmaster on resignation is advised of any intention to move the sub-post office in order that he may reconsider his resignation prior to the appointment of a successor; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Joseph Slater

All sub-postmasters are warned in writing on appointment, and again on resignation, that successors to their businesses or premises have no claim to the Sub-Postmastership. The filling of such appointments is entirely a matter for the Post Office. I am writing to the hon. Member about this.
