HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 cc527-8W
85 and 86. Mr. Boston

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what action has been taken to publicise among Royal Naval personnel the assisted house-purchase scheme for ratings of the Royal Navy, announced last year;

(2) how many applications for the assisted house-purchase scheme he has received from Royal Navy personnel in the East Kent area; whether he is satisfied with this number; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

This scheme was announced to the Fleet both by formal Defence Council Instruction and by a special notice board display in all ships and shore establishments; and there was a good deal of publicity in the national Press. of the Armed Forces, of all ranks, who may not have been able to qualify for National Insurance retirement pension. There are about 37,500 retired officers and 110,000 pensioned warrant officers, ratings and other ranks at present under the qualifying age for these National Insurance pensions.
