HC Deb 01 March 1966 vol 725 c264W
Q14. Mr. Edward M. Taylor

asked the Prime Minister what estimate he has made of the increased expenditure arising in a full year from the appointment of new Ministers and the employment of their additional staff since October, 1964.

The Prime Minister

Salaries and general administrative expenses of the five new Departments in 1966.67 are estimated at about £7¾ million. But nearly half of this is offset by the abolition of the Department of Technical Co-operation and transfers of work from other Departments.

These figures exclude the research establishments taken over from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research by the Ministry of Technology and the special units of the Ministry of Overseas Development mainly taken over from the Department of Technical Co-operation.

The net additional salaries of new Ministers, in the Government as a whole, are £109,875.
