asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to make it compulsory for national charities to notify the relevant local authority before making collections in order to avoid coinciding with locally-regulated appeals.

No. I have at present no reason to believe that in general the existing voluntary arrangements for consultation are not working satisfactorily.

My right hon. Friend is always willing to look into cases where difficulties appear to have arisen.
