asked the Minister of Transport what recent steps have been taken and what further steps are contemplated to reduce air pollution from petrol and diesel-engined vehicles on the road.

As regards diesel engined vehicles, I would refer my hon. Friend to the Answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Swindon (Mr. Francis Noel-Baker) on 10th May.

Experts from European countries including the United Kingdom met recently to proceed with the preparation of standard methods of measuring exhaust emissions from petrol engined vehicles and useful progress was made.
