asked the Minister of Labour if Her Majesty's Government have accepted Convention No 111 and Recommendation No. 111 of the International Labour Organisation concerning discrimination in respect of employment and occupation; and if he will make a statement on the action which has been taken.

The Convention has not been ratified by the United King- dom, nor the accompanying Recommendation accepted because, in the matter of equal pay, the present position in this country is not in complete conformity with their provisions. The Government fully accept the general principles of these instruments and, as the House knows, I am at present discussing the question of equal pay with the Trades Union Congress and the Confederation of British Industry.
