Mr. David Steelasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the practice of some firms in making day release opportunities under the Industrial Training Act available to their employees on condition of unpaid overtime work in lieu; and whether he will introduce an amendment to the Act to prevent this practice.
§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsI am not aware of this practice. If the hon. Member would furnish details of any case he knows about, I shall be glad to look into the question, though I am not sure amendment of the Industrial Training Act would be the right way to deal with it.
