HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 cc7-8W
68. Lady Tweedsmuir

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what progress has been made in resolving the financial problems of the United Nations.

Mr. George Thomson

At the end of the 20th Session of the General Assembly, a Committee of Experts was set up to examine the finances of the United Nations and the Specialised Agencies. Its task is to be accomplished, in the words of the Resolution setting it up, "without prejudice to the terms of reference of the Special Committee on peacekeeping operations", which was also requested by the Assembly to continue its work and which remains responsible for seeking solutions to the problems of peacekeeping finance. It is too early to report results from either of these bodies. Her Majesty's Government are represented on both.
